We are part of an American medical organization known as the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM), which emphasizes high-level research and a philosophy that prioritizes addressing the root cause of health issues rather than merely labeling or categorizing them. The organization is notable for its approach, which involves a significant number of physicians who practice conventional medicine.
For example, in our area of expertise, we often encounter individuals who suffer from a combination of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), various anxieties, and depression. Over the years, we have observed that these conditions often originate from the same underlying issues. Our approach focuses on identifying and addressing the root cause of these problems, rather than solely treating their symptoms. As a result, we frequently see all three conditions improve simultaneously through our interventions.
We also work with individuals experiencing attention deficit disorders such as ADD and ADHD. Many people seek our assistance with these concerns. Our approach includes examining factors like brain function, nutrition, musculoskeletal health, and posture, but we often begin by exploring the emotional aspects. We believe that the emotional system plays a crucial role in overall well-being, influencing attention, expression, and behavior.
To illustrate, a mother once contacted us regarding her child who was diagnosed with ADHD and struggled to sit still in class, often becoming disruptive and unfocused. Upon further discussion, we learned that the child could sit for hours engaging with a phone or computer screen without difficulty. This observation led us to consider whether the attention issues were selective or influenced by other factors, prompting us to explore deeper emotional or environmental causes.
